BUFFALO, N.Y. -- As we head into the Pegula era of Sabres ownership, it is clearly a family affair. Terry Pegula's two sons helped him at Wednesday's puck drop, and his daughters have been blogging about the experience.
Even the family dog has a role in the enterprise.
New Sabres President Ted Black describes the changes at HSBC Arena, "You know, the dog's running around the office, the kids are on Twitter. It's different, but it's fun, that's why I want to do this."
But, there could be one change for the pooch.
"The dog's name is Sidney, after Sidney Crosby. We're trying to find a way that we can reeducate the dog and name him Ryan, or something else... Gilbert." Black said.
Western New York got their first peek at Sidney the canine on Monday afternoon, as the family arrived on the eve of the big press conference. The Pegula family came out of the SUV, but Sid was leading the way.
Black says, "I almost got fired for offering to trade the dog for a Collie to be named later. That didn't go over very well with the family."
