It's been one year since I came to Buffalo, okay correction, 13 months exactly.
A few things I heard of Buffalo when I came here, the winters are bad, the sports teams aren't great and the American side of Niagara Falls needs so much improvement! Heard it over and over.
My response to that is this is HOME. You've heard it a lot at 2 On Your Side.
For the record, I'm a kid from just outside Boston, Mass., and the winters there can be brutal too. I grew up in the 90s and all the teams I rooted for including the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots were terrible.
Things have changed now and that's great news, but I know what it's like to be an embarrassed sports fan.
Rick Pitino said "Larry Bird isn't walking through that door," the Red Sox Mo Vaughan struck out more times than I can count and Drew Bledsoe threw so many interceptions, sometimes, I thought he was playing for the other team.
And, I know about dismal areas. Growing up outside Boston, there are plenty of places that are in constant need of sprucing up.
But things change and I think Buffalo's a great place to be.
I'm encouraged that the sports teams can improve. I'm hopeful Canalside can grow. And I'm optimistic Niagara Falls will prosper.
And that all of WNY will benefit.
This is HOME.
