New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Dallas Stars left wing Ryan Garbutt has
been suspended five games by the NHL for charging Anaheim forward Dustin
Penner in Sunday's matchup against the Ducks.
Shortly after exiting the penalty box, Garbutt left his feet to deliver a high
hit to the head area of Penner after the Anaheim wing was releasing a shot. He
was not penalized for the incident, which occurred during the second period of
the Stars' 6-3 loss to the Ducks.
Penner was helped to the dressing room and did not return to the game. He sat
out Anaheim's contest at Toronto on Tuesday as well.
Garbutt, who has no prior history of supplemental discipline, will begin his
suspension when the Stars host Calgary on Thursday. The 28-year-old will be
eligible to return for a Nov. 3 game at Ottawa.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Garbutt will forfeit
$14,743.60 in salary that will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
