BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A Buffalo police officer has been suspended and more disciplinary action could follow after an internal and criminal investigation is complete.
The internal investigation within the Buffalo Police Department started about 2 weeks ago. One Buffalo Police officer has been suspended, and further disciplinary action is pending, possibly against other officers.
The department isn't able to say much right now -- because the investigation is ongoing.
But we've learned from sources that this has to do with an allegation that at least one police officer stole a dog. A source tells us the allegations were very serious, possibly up to the felony level. However any decision on charges will be up to the district attorney
Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita was not in the office Tuesday, so we were not able to get comment from him. At this point, we aren't able to report on anymore specifics about the allegations, just that the officer and possibly officers were involved in the theft.
A Buffalo Police Spokesperson said the department is working with the district attorney's office. The department is not able to release the name of the officer who was suspended. However, a source tells us it is a high-ranking member of the Buffalo Police Department.
