BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Sabres home opener for the 48 game 2013 season will take place on Sunday, January 20th against the Philadelphia Flyers, a source told 2 On Your Side.
The game will take place at 12:30 p.m. at First Niagara Center and will be broadcast on NBC and Channel 2.
The NHL will not release the 2013 schedule until the players ratify the collective bargaining agreement. That is expected to happen on Saturday.
The NHL season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 19th. As of right now, it is not clear if the Sabres will play a road game on that day.
The NHL season has been reduced to 48 games due to a lockout the lasted more than 100 days.
The preparation for the season continued on Friday with several Sabres players skating at the Northtown Center in Amherst. Goaltender Ryan Miller joined the players for the first time on Friday morning.
More than 200 fans were on hand to watch the players skate. The Sabres coaching staff is not allowed to join the team until the lockout is officially over. Training camp is expected to begin on Sunday.
