ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A group of firearm owners gathered at the state Capitol in Albany as part of a series of nationwide rallies protesting new gun control proposals.

Perhaps 2,000 people - many carrying American flags and "Don't Tread On Me" banners - turned out for the chilly outdoor rally Saturday.

More honked car horns as they drove by, with the crowd chanting "We the people," ''USA" and "freedom."

The rally took place four days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the nation's toughest assault weapon and magazine restrictions.

Protester Robert Candea called the restrictions "an outrage against humanity."

Republican Assemblyman Steven McLaughlin told the crowd that New York's new law was "abuse of power" by the governor.
