CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - Cheektowaga Police have arrested a UPS worker who is accused of stealing silver bars and other goods shipped via UPS, the department announced on Friday.
The man who was arrested is a 26 year old resident of Alaska Street in the town of Cheektowaga. His name was not immediately released.
He is charged with third-degree felony grand larceny and felony criminal possession of stolen property. Sources say the man gave a confession to police. More charges are pending based on the actual amount of the stolen goods. Police will only say the items stolen are worth thousands of dollars.
Police say the UPS worker would take packages and re-route them to his home address.
Dan McMackin, UPS Spokesman told 2 On Your Side in a statement, "police have arrested a UPS employee on suspicion of theft. UPS is cooperating with local police and is in the midst of an investigation, therefore we cannot share any additional details. UPS takes the issue of integrity very seriously."
The man arrested is not being identified at this time. However, his attorney said he has no criminal history and was released after his arraignment in Cheektowaga Town Court.
