TORONTO (AP) - Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista was held out of the lineup for Friday night's game against the Boston Red Sox because of a sore right ankle.
Manager John Gibbons said the two-time major league home run leader was still recovering after twisting his ankle beating out a double play in the eighth inning of Thursday's 10-8 win over Cleveland. Bautista stayed in to run the bases but Rajai Davis came on defensively in the ninth.
Davis was set to start in right field against Boston.
Gibbons said he planned to ease Bautista back by putting him at designated hitter if he was healthy enough to play Saturday.
Bautista homered for the second straight game Thursday and has four RBIs in three games.
