WYOMING COUNTY, N.Y. -- Most of the 43 abandoned dogs found in Wyoming County are in new homes just days after being rescued.
Isaiah Goodell, a volunteer at the Wyoming County Animal Shelter, said only nine dogs are still waiting to be adopted.
The Wyoming County Animal Shelter called on the public for emergency assistance on Tuesday after the dogs were found in bad condition over the weekend.
The dogs were discovered in crates on the porch of a house in the Town of Middlebury. Many were found suffering from health conditions ranging from tumors to heart murmurs.
Goodell said the dogs are doing better now thanks in part to the widespread outpouring of support from the public.
"A lot of it's got to do with giving them a lot of loving and letting them get used to being safe, because they're not," Goodell said.
Police are still investigating what happened.
