Members of the Hellenic Orthodox Church on West Utica Street in Buffalo celebrated the Easter resurrection today with this service and family gatherings.

This is five weeks later than the Easter Sunday on the Western church calendar. The calendar for the Eastern Orthodox church calls for the celebration of Easter on the Sunday following the first moon of the spring or vernal equinox that also follows the Hebrew Passover observance.

That's so that the yearly observations occur in the same order as the corresponding events described in the bible.
