Delevan-Elton Road in Freedom, NY
Buffalo, NY- This morning we put the call out to Western New Yorkers on social media to tell us about the worst roads in Western New York. And it didn't take long. Within a couple of hours we had a couple hundred responses on Facebook and Twitter. There are more than 300 so far on Facebook alone.
At the top of this list is no surprise..Buffalo Avenue in Niagara Falls. And Kenmore Avenue in Buffalo and Tonawanda.
Now Buffalo Avenue has the reputation as being the worst road but work is actually underway on a major road re-construction project. Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster says that this federally funded project actually began last year and now involves the stretch of Buffalo Avenue from Veteran's Drive to the 190.
They will work through the fall and hope to have it completed by early next year.
Kenmore Avenue has some very rough spots especially east of Colvin. This is actually a border street between the City of Buffalo and the Town of Tonawanda. Some potholes appear to have been filled on the street. We have a message in to the City of Buffalo to determine which government may have the responsibility.
Other spots have surfaced in peoples' comments like Bullis Road in Elma, the Colvin Boulevard bridge over Ellicott Creek, and other locations. Some also question if streets like Michigan in the city of Buffalo could be improved as it is a gateway or sorts into the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
We're still taking you're nominees for the worst roads in Western New York. You can submit your specific stretch on our 2 On Your Side Facebook page.... Or tweet your response to us using the hash tag "#badroadwny" and comment on this story at wgrz.com.
Next week you can vote for which is the worst road from each area of Western New York and we'll go to the agency responsible for the road and see what can be done about it. That could be the state, county, city, town, or village.
