Chief Justice John Roberts in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is in his native Western New York today to help mark the 10th anniversary of the Robert H. Jackson Center.

Roberts, who was born in Buffalo, spoke on the front porch of the center in Jamestown this morning.

The Robert H. Jackson Center advances the ideals of Jackson, who served on the Supreme Court from 1941 to 1954 after getting his start as a country lawyer in Western New York. It was dedicated 10 years ago by Roberts' predecessor, Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

Roberts spoke of the changes with technology, diversity of the justices, and procedures that Jackson would see if he were a visitor to the Supreme Court now. But he says Jackson's legal principles still hold fast in the court.

More than 2,000 people, including many students from local schools, attended to hear Roberts speak. There were also many dignataries including federal and state judges from New York and Pennsylvania.
