BUFFALO, NY-- A WNY family has been reunited with their dog after it ran away following a car accident that injured their three children. And social media played a big role.

The accident happened on Walden Avenue near the corner of Harlem Road this past weekend.

A five-year-old girl injured remains in critical condition at Women and Children's Hospital.  Her six and three-year-old brothers have both been treated and released.

The family's dog Bentley was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and ran off.  Because the family has been at the hospital, they could not search for the dog.

Katie Barrett, who lives in the residential area off nearby Harlem Road,  read about the missing dog on Facebook postings. The WGRZ Facebook page had 117,000 hits and was shared some 2,500 times. Barrett wondered if a dog on the loose there might be the 1-1/2-year-old Shih Tzu, Poodle, Pitbull mix.

Katie then organized neighbors to search for the dog and caught him near McNaughton and St. Boniface about 5:30 on Tuesday night.  The family was surprised outside the hospital later Tuesday night with a visit by Bentley.

Barrett says she hopes the child will be happy to know that her family dog will be there to greet her when she recovers and goes home.
