TONAWANDA, NY-- A late tentative agreement has been reached to avert a possible strike for nearly one thousand employees at the Dunlop Tire Plant in Tonawanda.
According to a very brief post on the United Steelworkers Local 135 website and the Goodyear Company's website, a tentative agreement has been reached.
Local 135 Vice President Donald Sodaro tells 2 On Your Side that workers on the third shift were prepared to walk off the job Saturday night and union leaders were in the plant to inform them of the tentative agreement.
The current contract, which covers about 950 employees at the Tonawanda factory and thousands more at five other plants across the country, expired at midnight Saturday night but now there is this tentative settlement.
Details may be released for union members next week with a possible ratification vote.
