(bisons.com)-The IronPigs walked their way to a huge 5-3 victory over the Bisons on Tuesday night from Coca-Cola Field. In the process, Lehigh Valley dealt the Herd a very ill-timed defeat.
With just six games remaining in the 2013 season, the Bisons now trail Norfolk by 3.5 games in the International League Wild Card standings. The silver lining is Buffalo will face the other team they are facing, the Rochester Red Wings, the next four nights, including the final two home games of the season on Wednesday (7pm) and Thursday (6pm).
Tuesday's defeat stings for a number of reasons for the Herd. Buffalo had a 3-0 lead in the game after the top of the second inning. Recently named an International League postseason All-Star, Mauro Gomez hit his 29th home run of the season to give the Bisons an early 2-0 advantage. Jim Negrych upped the lead to three with a one-out RBI-single in the second.
But Lehigh Valley fought back and the game reached the stretch knotted at three. The IronPigs then plated two runs without the benefit of a hit in the bottom of the seventh. Ricky Romero walked three of the final four batters he faced to load the bases. Reliever Brad Lincoln then hit Cody Overbeck and walked Tyler Henson to force in a pair of runs before.
Any Bisons rally, meanwhile, was erased by the team hitting into three doubleplays and leaving seven men on base.
Romero suffered the defeat for the Bisons. He allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and six walks in 6.1 innings of work.
