MIAMI, F.L.- If for some reason you thought the Buffalo Bills were done playing close games, you were wrong.

Buffalo kicker Dan Carpenter drilled a 31-yard field goal with 36 seconds left as the Bills escape the Miami Dolphins, 23-21.

With the Bills trailing 21-20 late in the fourth quarter, Bills defensive end Mario Williams stripped Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams recovered and set up the Bills offense in Miami territory.

Mario Williams' play was an exclamation point on a strong defensive showing from the Bills, forcing three turnovers including two Tannehill interceptions.

Buffalo running back Fred Jackson made perhaps the play of the game when he ran for a first down on 3rd and 4, which let the Bills milk the clock before kicking the game-winning field goal.

Jackson finished with 85 total yards, including a 3-yard touchdown run, which put the Bills up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Cornerback Nickell Robey got the Bills off to a quick start in the first quarter, picking off Tannehill and returning it 20 yards for a touchdown to put the Bills up 7-0.

In the second quarter, the Dolphins got on the scoreboard when Tannehill found tight end Charles Clay for a seven-yard touchdown.

Buffalo's offense struggled early in the second quarter, with Bills QB Thad Lewis throwing an interception while he was hit to set the Dolphins up with great field position.

The Dolphins would take the lead with 28 seconds left in the first half thanks to a 5-play 75-yard drive capped by a 4-yard touchdown pass from Tannehill to Brandon Gibson.

Buffalo however was able to comeback and win the game on the strength of two Dan Carpenter field goals.

The irony: the Dolphins cut Dan Carpenter at the end of training camp this year.
