While it's still cold outside, you can start your spring plants indoors to get a jump on the gardening season.
It's called winter sewing and you can do it anytime after Christmas. Get a plastic container with a clear plastic top on it. Fill it with a light potting soil. Then sow the seeds the same way you would outside.
Put the seeds in the soil, then water. Slice a few slits in the top of the container. Then put it outside in the cold with the top on it. The plastic top will act as a greenhouse, allowing the plants to grow. If you start to see condensation, take the top off or add more slits to the top.
Once the weather gets warm enough, you can put the seeds in the ground.
