Major Shawn Swanson injured in Pittsburgh car accident
BUFFALO, N.Y. - A local support commander of a Buffalo based Marine Reserve unit suffered head injuries following a car crash last month in Pittsburgh.
Friends tell WGRZ.com that 41 year old Major Shawn Swanson has been in the Intensive Care Unit at UPMC Medical Center in Pittsburgh since he was critically injured on June 28th in an accident on Interstate 79 north of Pittsburgh. He was on a vacation trip at the time. Swanson was originally placed in a medically induced coma for a traumatic brain injury but is now responsive to his family and friends.
Swanson is the Inspector/Instructor for the Marine reservists with the India Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment. That unit is being deployed to Afghanistan and is now in training at Camp Pendleton in California.
Friends tell us that Swanson is a highly decorated Iraq War veteran.
