Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - C.J. Wilcox tallied 27 points and nine
rebounds to help the Washington Huskies fend off the Stanford Cardinal, 65-60,
in a Pac-12 Conference bout at Maples Pavilion.
Wilcox shot 10-of-16 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, for
Washington (11-5, 3-0 Pac-12), which has won seven of its last eight contests.
Aziz N'Diaye added 14 points, and Desmond Simmons ripped down 13 rebounds for
For Stanford (10-7, 1-3), Dwight Powell scored 19 points, while Chasson Randle
poured in 16 points from off the bench.
In an evenly-matched first half, both teams shot 15-of-29 from the field, but
a Randle layup in the final minute secured a 36-35 Stanford lead at
Washington opened up the second half on a 7-2 run to take a four-point lead,
and it would hold onto that advantage until the Cardinal tied the game up at
58-58 on a Randle jumper with 3:38 to play. The Huskies answered immediately
with a pair of free throws from N'Diaye to retake the lead, and Wilcox put an
exclamation point on the win with the team's final five points down the
The Huskies held an advantage in the rebounding battle, 37-29, and they were
able to turn 12 Cardinal turnovers into 16 points.
