Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Devin Mesoraco and Shin-Soo Choo hit back-
to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Cincinnati
Reds edged the Atlanta Braves, 5-4, in the middle test of a three-game series.
With two outs and Craig Kimbrel (0-1) pitching, Mesoraco's connected on a 3-2
pitch to tie the game. Choo followed that up with his second home run of the
night to give his team the win.
Donald Lutz and Brandon Phillips each drove in one run for the Reds. Starter
Homer Bailey had seven strikeouts but surrendered four runs on five hits and
four walks over five innings. Jonathan Broxton (1-1) pitched a perfect top of
the ninth to earn the win.
Brian McCann drove in two runs while Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman had an RBI
apiece for the Braves, who were looking to win their first series against the
Reds on the road since April 24-26, 2009.
Braves starter Kris Medlen allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over
seven innings to earn a no-decision.
