The centers for disease control and prevention provided of a snapshot of the most severe antibiotic-resistant infections plaguing patients today -- and is asking everyone to get involved to stop the spread of antibiotic resistance.

infections considered "urgent" threats include c-r-e, c-diff, and drug-resistant gonorrhea.

the last line of antibiotics often don't work for patients with these infections -- in fact every year fourteen thousand people die from c-diff.

in order to curb this growing problem c-d-c experts are encouraging people to prevent infections -- by washing their hands and being current on their vaccines.

they also say up to half of antibiotics used today are not necessary -- so doctors and patients need to be vigilant and only use them when indicated.

they are also encouraging drug companies to develop new antibiotics, and are tracking the patterns of antibiotic resistance.

hospitals are the source of a majority of the dangerous, drug-resistant infections.
