Vaccinating teenagers against whooping cough has been shown to help protect babies from catching the respiratory disease.

Babies too young for the vaccine are highly susceptible to catching whooping cough from family members. however, the vaccine's effectiveness can wane.

Researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center found that after the centers for disease control started requiring teens to get booster shots... fewer infants were hospitalized with the disease.

Last year, the CDC also recommended pregnant women get the vaccine.

Researchers say doctors need to carefully monitor these combinations of drug prescriptions -- to ensure children aren't being over-medicated or suffering negative side effects.
