There were some extra police officers on duty Saturday night in the area of the Canal Fest event, which takes place in the City of North Tonawanda. That's because of the late Friday night shootings outside a restaurant in the neighboring City of Tonawanda. Police charged a 19-year-old and 16-year-old with firing gunshots, which wounded two other young people. Police say it started with an argument down the street at the Canal Fest. Officer Tim Toth, City of Tonawanda Police, says violence at Canal Fest is rare. “We go through our normal disturbances. Our disorderly conducts, minor drug arrests through the week. Rowdy teens, and things like that. This is the first time in 13 years I've ever had an incident this violent take place at Canal Fest." One of the victims was shot in the upper arm, the other in the chin. Both were treated and released from ECMC.
