Black Ties for Black History

BUFFALO, N.Y. - It was "Black Tie For Black History" on Friday night in downtown Buffalo.

The annual gala raises money for various cultural organizations including the Juneteenth Festival.

The fourth annual event was held at the Tralf Music Hall on Main Street.

This year's honorees were: Satoria and Kevin Donovan, founders of Urban Professionals;  George Johnson, local businessman; Darius Pridgen, Pastor of True Bethel Baptist Church and Ellicott District Councilmember; Terrence Amir McKelvey, Key  Bank Branch Manager; Eva Doyle, local historian;  Demone Smith, Masten District Councilmember and Detra Trueheart, founder of the Young Miss Buffalo Pageant.

"This is an event that we want others to enjoy," said Marcus Brown. "This is a way that we can not only see them during the summer months, but also during the winter months when we can embrace each other and also raise funds for the Juneteenth events."

Juneteenth is the annual festival commemorating the end of slavery.
