AKRON, N.Y.-Akron beat Fredonia 27-10 Friday night in Akron.
The Hillbillies couldn't handle Tigers quarterback Austin Mietz. He was 13 for 20 for 160 yards and three touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 16, 18 and 14 yards. He ran 24 times for 164 yards and one touchdown, a two yard run.
Sturgis Sundown # 25 had 5 catches for 48 yards and he caught a 16 yard touchdown pass from Mietz. Austen Lauricella had two catches and two touchdowns. He had an 18 yard touchdown reception and he also caught a 14 yard touchdown pass.
Akron started the season 1-3 but has won its last two games to even its record at 3-3. The Tigers have three league losses and are most likely headed to a Chuck Funke bowl, a game named after the late former Section 6 football chairman. Injuries had been a factor as the Tigers had been playing without five injured starters. The loss prevents Fredonia from clinching the league title.
Akron head coach Mike Dean told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "they finally had a great attitude the whole game. We've lost the last three games by a total of 9 points so we finally finished a game completely. They finally played together and that's what we always ask of our players."
