BUFFALO, NY-- Buffalo's Bishop Emeritus was honored for his work in the Queen City Friday night and also shared his thoughts on retirement.
The Most Reverend Edward Kmiec retired three months ago as leader of the Buffalo Catholic Diocese. He talked to Two On Your Side Friday evening during the 32nd Annual Father Baker Service to Youth Awards at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Bishop Kmiec moved into an apartment in the Rectory of St Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo and says he's been enjoying retirement perhaps more than even he expected.
"It's been very liberating to be freed from the responsibilities as Bishop," said Kmiec.
"Really and truly, it was perhaps only after I retired that I really understood there is an underlying stress that is there all the time. You feel responsibility for everything," he added.
Bishop Kmiec says he is now able to enjoy his free time focusing on his own spiritual life, doing some free reading and watching sports on TV.
