the hallmark of sickle cell disease, misshapen red blood cells, may be used to help fight cancerous tumors.

researchers at a cancer research company in california teamed up with duke university to develop a way to target specific tumors in mice and block blood vessels around them with the sickle-shaped cells.

the tumors used in this study are often difficult to treat with chemotherapy and radiation.
