Children on certain inhaled steroids to treat asthma may become slightly shorter adults than their peers.

a new study reveals kids who were given the steroid budesonide (bu-des-o-nide) twice a day -- grew to be about a half an inch shorter than those who took other asthma drugs -- or no drugs at all.

patients who showed the slowest growth were between five and eleven years old when they began the treatment

researchers encourage doctors to monitor the growth of their patients on these steroid ... but also say these drugs help children more than they harm.
