BUFFALO, NY-- Richard "Dick" Dobson, a registered Democrat, announced his candidacy for Erie County Sheriff.
A former Erie County Sheriff Deputy, Dobson says he decided to run because he was concerned about how the recent policy changes have affected the Sheriff's office.
"In considering the current sheriff's obstructionist policies against state and federal agencies charged with overseeing law enforcement organizations, and the associated prisoner deaths and escapes that have led to countless lawsuits at taxpayer expense, I can no longer stand by in silent non-support. I am announcing my candidacy for the office of Erie County Sheriff in order to return the department to its mission of 'providing quality public safety services to our community by promoting a safe environment through police and citizen interaction, with an emphasis on integrity, fairness, and professionalism,'" said Dobson in a released statement.
Dobson is seeking the endorsement of the Democratic, Conservative, Independent and Working Families parties.
Dobson was an Erie County Sheriff Deputy for 32 years. Dobson is also the father of New York State Trooper Kevin Dobson, who was killed in the line of duty in 2011.
