KENDALL, NY-A Kendall man is in police custody after shooting his wife, setting his home on fire and then shooting himself, according to the Orleans County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Scott D. Hess said Dennis Buehler, 64, shot his wife, Linda Buehler, 58, in the shoulder after a confrontation in their home on Peter Smith Road. After they struggled, Linda ran out of the house, got in the family car and drove herself to a nearby home for help.

Sometime after that, Dennis set the house on fire, walked outside and then shot himself in the face.

Both Buehlers were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Dennis is in satisfactory condition.

Hess said in a release that Dennis is facing numerous charges.

During the incident the Orleans County Multi-Agency SWAT team was activated. The Kendall Fire Department also responded once the area was secured by law enforcement. They were assisted at the scene by other fire departments from Orleans and Monroe county fire departments.

The house is a total loss. Fire crews had a difficult time getting water to the residence.
