BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Niagara University Purple Eagles best the RIT Tigers 2-1 in overtime Saturday night at Dwyer Arena. Niagara wins the AHA quarterfinals and moves into the AHA semifinals next weekend in Rochester.
With the game tied at one and 13:12 remaining on the clock in extra time, Ryan Murphy picked up a bouncing puck in the slot, pulling it to the right of RIT netminder Jordan Ruby before finding Zanette through a trio of Tiger defensemen. Zanette was waiting on the doorstep, pulling the trigger for his first game-winner of the season.
RIT scored the first goal of the night just 1:12 into the first period. Justin Mitchell put the Tigers on the board. Niagara's Patrick Divjak scored late in the second period to tie the game at one. It stayed that way until Zanette's overtime game winner.
Purple Eagles goaltender Carsen Chubak finished with 34 saves. The Purple Eagles out shot the Tigers 41-35.
The loss ends the Tigers season with a record of 15-18-5.
Niagara will advance to the semifinals which begin next weekend at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
