BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Brian Flynn and Jochen Hecht scored third-period goals 12 seconds apart, and the Buffalo Sabres rallied to beat the Ottawa Senators 4-2 on Friday night.

"There's so many aspects to play this game, and there's still a lot of life in here to maybe even catch a playoff spot," said Sabres forward Steve Ott. "There's a true factor of us actually catching a playoff spot, we hold some destiny in our own hands. "

Ott and Luke Adam also scored for Buffalo, and Ryan Miller stopped 35 shots. Defensemen Adam Pardy and Mike Weber each had two assists for the rebuilding Sabres, who are still trying to make a late push for a playoff spot.

"We lost a lot of leadership, a lot of good veteran players, but we just stressed that the younger guys had more opportunity and had the opportunity for the rest of the year to prove themselves" said Sabres forward Brian Flynn.

Buffalo (15-17-6), now 12th in the Eastern Conference, was coming off a 4-1 victory at Pittsburgh on Tuesday that snapped the Penguins' 15-game winning streak.

Marc Methot and Eric Gryba scored for the Senators, who have lost three straight in regulation for the first time this season. Mika Zibanejad had two assists for Ottawa (19-12-6).

"Obviously we're going to need some help from some of the top-end teams to knock off the guys we're racing with, but you know what? We're playing a lot of those guys we're racing with for a playoff spot, so we have to continue to be, I guess, that old 'Bad News Bears' hockey club," said Ott.
