ROCHESTER, NY-- Filming of a chase scene for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 begins Tuesday, with East Main Street being closed intermittently between Plymouth and Clinton avenues. A portion of St. Paul Street also will be closed at times.
Main Street will be open to pedestrian traffic in between actual shooting of the scenes and will be directed by Rochester police officers or film production staff posted at intersections. Production staff also will direct people in buildings along Main Street when the filming is taking place and they cannot use the front doors. Generally, takes will be about 10 minutes long.
The following streets are only open to local traffic: Stone Street, School Alley, Fitzhugh Street, Irving Place, Exchange Boulevard and Aqueduct Street from Main to Broad streets, and Montgomery Alley, Fitzhugh Street, Pindle Alley and State Street from Church to Main streets. Corinthian and Basin streets also are only open to local traffic.
Monroe County also announced that the mobile Department of Motor Vehicles unit will be across from the Monroe County Parks Office, 171 Reservoir Drive from Tuesday through May 9 instead of the City Place location at 50 W. Main St.
Mayor Thomas Richards said, unfortunately, watching will not be as "fun for people as it might have been." However, people can walk up to the Main Street corners to get a peek at the action.
"It's not intended to be for our benefit."
City spokesman Gary Walker said the car chase also will include at least one gun fight.
