BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Salvation Army is warning people that may get a call, allegedly from them, asking for donations to help those affected by the tornados that struck Oklahoma, that it's a scam.

Residents in Michigan got calls that included specific references to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army with an option of "press 1 to donate". The call came from the phone number 1-888-981-6499.

The Salvation Army wants everyone to know this is not authorized fundraising on behalf of either organization.

"Both organizations have stated that, while they are taking donations to assist with tornado relief, neither group uses automated calls for solicitation. Please do not send donations to this organization," said a Salvation Army spokesperson.
