TOWN OF YORKSHIRE, N.Y. -- A young man was killed after State Police say he walked into a roadway early Sunday morning and was hit by a car in Cattaraugus County.
Troopers say 28-year-old Edward Speaker of Machias walked into the traffic lane of State Route 16 in the Town of Yorkshire at around 1:44 a.m. Sunday.
The driver of the car that hit him was cleared of wrongdoing and did not need medical treatment. A passenger in her car was also unharmed.
State Police say intoxication is a contributing factor to why Speaker walked into the roadway, but they continue to investigate.
