BUFFALO, NY - An infant has died after a two-alarm fire in Buffalo's Riverside neighborhood overnight.

The fire started around 2:45 a.m. at 367 Riverside Avenue and spread to a neighboring home and an adjacent building.

The parents and the infant, whose name was Savior, escaped on their own and were down the street when rescuers arrived at the scene.

Witnesses say the parents were pounding on neighbors' doors for help before firefighters arrived.

Sixty to 65 firefighters were on-scene battling the flames at one point.

The Buffalo Fire Commissioner says the parents of the infant refused medical treatment in order to be with the child on the way to the hospital.

A man who identified himself as an uncle to the infant that died told Two On Your Side, the baby was named Savior Lopez and was six months old.

Firefighters helped residents out of 365 Riverside Avenue where the flames had spread.

Investigators remained on scene late Tuesday morning collecting evidence and photographing the home where the fire began.

No official cause of the fire has been released yet.  Fire investigators tell 2-On-Your-Side say they are awaiting lab results.  They did tell us the fire started on the first floor of the house.

The Buffalo Red Cross assisted four people who also lived in the home.

A fund has been set up for the family of Savior.  You can send a donation to the Rodriguez Lopez Family at any Keybank.
