LEWISTON, N.Y.-Usually the National Anthem is sung before an event, not after. Well, there was a little change of pace after the Porter Cup Golf Tournament wrapped up Saturday afternoon at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston.
When champion Taylor Pendrith was handed the Porter Cup the audience started singing "Oh Canada" as a tribute to the Canadian golfer. Pendrith is just the third Canadian to win the Porter Cup. He shot a final round 3-under 67 for a 16 under total, the third lowest score total in tournament history.
Pendrith said winning the Porter Cup is the highlight fo his career so far. "It just still is very overwhelming. Just to look at the names who've won this tournament its pretty awesome. Feel very privileged and it feels very special to win this tournament."
While the weather was ideal for the first three days of the tournament was ideal, Saturday part of the tournament was played in a downpour, however play was never stopped.
Texas A&M's Tyler Dunlap finished second. He clinched the second spot with a beautiful 40 foot birdie putt on 18. He finished the tournament at 11 under par. Justin Shin and Brady Watt tied for third at ten under for the tournament.
