CARLTON, NY - A Medina woman died after running a stop sign Saturday evening, and four other people were sent to local hospitals.
Ashley D. Morehouse, 28, of Medina, was driving west on Oak Orchard Road at about 7:10 p.m. when she failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Waterport Road, the Orleans County Sheriff's Office said in a statement released Saturday night. Her car was struck by an SUV driven by Lorrie D. Kuhns, 53, of Batavia, who was traveling north on Waterport.
Police believe that sun glare may have been a factor in the crash, but the investigation continues.
Morehouse's four-year-old son, Dominic Amrhein, also of Medina, was in the back seat of the car when the crash occurred. He was fastened into a child safety seat, police say. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by ambulance. Also in the vehicle was Gary L. Weese, 40, of Batavia, who was flown to Strong Memorial by Mercy Flight.
Kuhns's husband, Thomas S. Kuhns, 61, of Batavia, was riding in the front seat of her 2003 Pontiac Suburban. They were both taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
Morehouse was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orleans County coroner. The condition of the other victims is not available at this time.
