Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone still doesn't have a timetable on when EJ Manuel might be able to return from his knee injury, but he said Monday that Manuel is "ahead of schedule for where he is right now."

Manuel suffered his knee injury Oct. 3 in Cleveland, and at that time the prognosis for absence was at least a few weeks. "I still haven't gotten a timeline yet from the doctor and as soon as he does I'll give it to you," Marrone said. "Obviously we want to be close to or exact to."

The roster spot Matt Flynn took was created when the Bills placed defensive back Jonathan Meeks on injured reserve, designated for return status. Meeks suffered an ankle injury in the game. Linebacker Manny Lawson suffered a hamstring injury in the game, but Marrone thinks he'll be fine for Miami.

Jeff Tuel met with Marrone to ask about his status, which seems to be trending downward. "Listen, here's what it is," Marrone said, paraphrasing what he told Tuel. "Do I expect you to be happy with that? No, I don't want you to be. I want you to, 'Hey, I'm going to show you, and I'm going to work my butt off.' You don't have to agree with what your role is. You have to do it, but you don't have to agree with it. Then you're the one that can change it by getting better."

The decision to allow cornerback Stephon Gilmore to play with a heavy wrap on his injured left wrist did not seem to pay dividends as Gilmore struggled all day. However, Marrone didn't see it that way and defended the move. "It's difficult playing this game when you're healthy and then you put a cast on and go out there," said Marrone. "Even he said, 'Hey I want to go out there and help this team.' I think he was able to do that. Obviously it was his first time out there; he's productive when he's out there. He's not a good player, he's a great player. I appreciate him being out there and I thought he did a good job."
