North Tonawanda Wins AA State Championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Running back Joe Montesanti hit Darrik Bloomfield with a 12-yard touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter Sunday, leading North Tonawanda past New Rochelle 14-7 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA football championship.

The football title was the first for North Tonawanda (13-0), the first for a school from Niagara County and the fourth for Section VI on the weekend.

The Lumberjacks went 49 yards in six plays on their first possession of the game, capped by a 21-yard pass from Mike Tuzzo to Travis Charsley.

The Huguenots (11-1) tied it on their first possession of the second half on Julian Griffin's 54-yard touchdown run down the right sideline.
