BUFFALO, NY- The wife of a baseball legend left her mark in Buffalo Monday.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown declared June 17, 2013 Rachel Robinson day in the city of Buffalo.

Rachel Robinson, widow of baseball hall of famer Jackie Robinson, came to Buffalo to speak at New Era Cap's annual sales meeting at the Statler City Hotel.

Robinson's husband was the first African American to play Major League Baseball and she spoke about the struggles and triumps of their life together.

Robinson and her husband were both civil rights activists and are seen as key figures in the fight for equality in the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. She shared stories of her experiences during such a historic time with the crowd of New Era employees.

Robinson, 91, now continues to run a foundation in her husband's honor, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, that provides scholarships and educational and leadership development to minority youth across the country. Chris Koch, the CEO of New Era, serves on the foundation's board of directors.

Jackie's story was the subject of the recent hit movie "42", which of course was the number he wore with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
