BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority has come under fire for its use of a high-priced public relations firm.

Last week, Investigative Post and 2 On Your Side reported how the housing authority worked with Eric Mower + Associates in an attempt to thwart a reporter working on a story about the BMHA's failure to follow city recycling mandates.

Earlier this week, The Buffalo News reported Eric Mower has been paid more than $90,000 over the past 15 months. Rates range from $125 to $325 an hour. Dawn Sanders-Garrett, the authority's executive director, awarded the work to Eric Mower without soliciting bids from other firms.

Following that disclosure, the authority reversed course and issued a request for proposals, giving other firms a shot at the business.

Scott Levin of WGRZ discussed the situation with Jim Heaney, editor of Investigative Post, who used to cover the housing authority and worked with Dan Telvock on the stories that aired this past week.
