BUFFALO, NY-Its been the best weekend in program history for the Canisius hockey team. The Golden Griffs won the AHA Tournament Saturday night in Rochester and earned their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The team gathered Sunday night at the Koessler Center to watch the selection show and learn their opponent in the first round. The Griffs will play top-seeded Quinnipiac in the NCAA Tournament East Regional Semifinal. The Griffs and Bobcats are set to meet on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Providence, R.I.

Quinnipiac enters the tournament with a 27-7-5 overall record. The Bobcats earned an at-large selection after winning the ECAC regular-season title and finishing third in the league's postseason tournament.

Griffs goaltender Tony Capobianco told Two On Your Side  "I think there's always a chance to beat em, a chance to an upset, we're definitely the lower seed. But I know that the guys are excited to go out there and as long as we play our game there's always a chance. Yeah, I'd definitely say it's an honor, it's something we'll carry with us for a long time after this and its great for all the alumni out there to be following us."
