(bisons.com)-There's a reason there's a 'hits' column and a 'runs' column on the scoreboard. Syracuse put up plenty of hits but couldn't dent the goose egg under 'runs' as the Bisons shutout their rival to the tune of a 1-0 victory on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Field. The win is Buffalo's second in a row over the Chiefs heading into Sunday's series finale.

Syracuse had 10 hits on the night, but the combination of Chris Schwinden, Robert Carson and Fernando Cabrera kept their opponent off the scoreboard. The Chiefs were just 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base.

Schwinden worked the first six frames and scattered eight hits and a walk. He retired 10 of the first 12 batters he faced and squashed any rally Syracuse tried to mount.

After yielding two hits in the fourth inning, the Bisons starter got Brett Carroll to bounce into a comebacker to end the inning. Syracuse had two doubles in the fifth, but Schwinden threw out the lead runner inbetween on Tanner Roark's bunt attempt. The Chiefs then had three singles in the sixth , but the righty wiggled out unscathed with a strikeout and a groundout.

With the six shutout frames, Schwinden lowered his season ERA to 2.96, the 7th lowest mark in the International League.

Buffalo scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to give Schwinden his seventh win of the season. Lucas Duda doubled down the right field line to score Fred Lewis from second base.

Robert Carson worked a scoreless seventh and eighth innings and Fernando Cabrera picked up his IL-best 19th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

The series continues Sunday afternoon with a single game at Coca Cola Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm.
