DARIEN, NY - Police and emergency crews were called out to Sumner Road near Darien Lake Theme Park after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says that Casey J. Parnell, 20, of Mumford, was walking on the shoulder of Sumner Road when he suddenly stepped out into the road. He was struck by an eastbound mini-van.

"The early account are the he was on the south shoulder when he moved into the path of this east bound minivan. At this point in time there seems to be no fault of the driver of the minivan," according to Warden Dibble with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

Parnell was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC where he died from his injuries early Sunday morning.

No one in the mini-van was injured.

Officials continue to investigate the accident and no charges are expected.
