Englewood, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning did not take part in Wednesday's practice due to a minor ankle injury the four-time NFL MVP sustained in Sunday's loss at Indianapolis.

Manning told reporters that he will be back practicing on Thursday, however, and he isn't believed to be in any danger of missing this weekend's game against the Washington Redskins.

The 37-year-old was one of several Broncos veterans that received rest days, a list that also includes wide receivers Wes Welker (ankle) and Eric Decker (toe) and defensive end Shaun Phillips (hamstring).

Cornerback Champ Bailey also was held out of Wednesday's status, though his status for Sunday's game is far more uncertain after he was forced to exit last week's 39-33 loss to the Colts when aggravating a previous foot injury that had sidelined him for the season's first five games.

Manning currently leads the NFL in both passing yards (2,565) and touchdown passes (25) this season while leading Denver to a 6-1 record thus far.
