Barczykowski Wins Connolly Cup

BLASDELL, N.Y.-Corey Barczykowski from Alden is the winner of the 41st Connolly Cup. The Connolly Cup is gven annually to the top player in Western New York. 

Winning the Connolly Cup is a great accomplishment. Barczykowski is a senior at Alden High School and couldn't have been happier to win the award. "It's just a phenomenal feeling" said Barczykowski. "This whole season was a great accomplishment for our whole team." The Bulldogs finished their season with an overall record of 11-1.

Barczykowski set the Bulldog's single season rushing record with 2,255 yards. He finished his season with 256 carries which he averaged 8.8 yards per rush. He also had 28 touchdowns that accounted for 168 points.

During the Section VI Quarter Finals against Pioneer Barczykowski had one of his best games where he had 29 carries for 283 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Barczykowski led Alden to their first ever state semi final appearance. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs fell to Maine-Endwell in the State Semi Finals 49-14.

The 2012 Connolly Cup Awards had ten great contender all with great statistics. "With all the great contenders here I was really surprised I won it" said Barczykowski. "You look at all the great players that were here today like Smigiera and Ollison, they all had a great seasons."

"It personally means a lot. I take it right to the heart and it's a great accomplishment. I'm really proud to be one of the people that have won the Connolly Cup just like all the others" said Barczykowski.

Jehuu Caulcrick was the guest speaker at the Connolly Cup Banquet. He attended four years at Cylmer High school where he started his football career as a freshman. Caulcrick is one of only three players to be a 3 time Connolly Cup Finalist. He won the award in 2002 and is the only freshman to ever be a finalist for the Connolly Cup. Caulcrick played football at Michigan State College. He also played in the NFL for the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Fancisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills.
