Mr. Andy Parker is an AMS Sealed Meteorologist who has worked in television with both WKBW-TV Ch.7 (ABC), a division of Granite Broadcasting and WGRZ-TV Ch.2 (NBC), a division of Gannett Broadcasting, positions he has held since the 1990s.
Mr. Parker is an accomplished forecaster whose presence bolstered the stations weather operations, by both streamlining current practices and introducing new technologies. Andy's expertise prepared WGRZ's Weather Department to accurately forecast and present WGRZ's weather message across new media platforms.
Prior to being hired by WKBW, Andy studied math and atmospheric physics at the State University of New York at Brockport where he obtained a B.S. degree in Meteorology Science along with the department's Science Scholar Award. Since that time, Andy's work in the forecasting field has earned him numerous awards as well as the internationally respected broadcasting Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.
In an effort to showcase science in a fun and educational way Andy created the trademarked Weather Machine program. This performance quite literally brings the weather into schools! The Weather Machine is capable of producing all types of weather, from a 7ft tornado to snowstorms which fill an auditorium and just about anything in between. Students are engaged by the "Unanswerable Weather Question" prompting creative thinking and introducing the concept that weather affects all aspects of life. Andy grew up in the southtowns and is no stranger to lake effect snow having a real appreciation for the way Western New York & Southern Ontario weather can change with just a few miles. His travels have afforded him first hand experience with all types of weather ranging from Caribbean hurricanes (Marilyn, Luis & Charley) to tornadic outbreaks and the traditional nor'easter coastal storm.
His compelling live reports along with a clear and consistently accurate presentation has allowed him to represent the area on the national stage by providing coverage to the Weather Channel and affiliates across the country.
An accomplished public speaker, he has routinely made appearances at both business and community events receiving recognition from local organizations for his service and contributions.
When not predicting the weather, he can often be found outside enjoying it! Andy is a sports enthusiast and photographer who enjoys kayaking the waterfront as well as taking in many of the summertime festivals throughout the area.
