BUFFALO, N.Y.-Canisius beat Bishop Kearney 69-50 Tuesday night in the Bernard J. Kennedy Fieldhouse at Canisius High School.
Bishop Kearney played without senior Chinonso Obokoh who apparently sat out the game with a foot injury. Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar asked Crusaders head coach Kyle Husband if he was upset that the Knights big man wasn't there. "I don't care, its something we can't control. Just as long as we keep getting better every time we step on the floor I'm happy."
Husband had plenty to be happy about Tuesday night as the Crusaders improved their record to 3-1 on the season. Once again senior leadership was key for Canisius. Adam Wier, # 25 led the way with 28 points. Another senior # 33 Matt MacDonald had 16. Wier, MacDonald and another senior, # 3 Aaron White all hit big shots in the third quarter when the Crusaders hit five three pointers. Wier and MacDonald had two each and White hit another three as the Crusaders broke the game wide open.
Husband told Stu "we played well, the first quarter was a struggle but we kept grinding away especially in the third quarter. We made shots, we worked hard on defense all night. Shots weren't falling early but those five threes in the third were huge. When we spread it around like that we'll be good."
Canisius is now 3-1 on the season. The Knights were led by # 5 Antoine Anderson with 20 points. Sophomore # 31 Thomas Bryant had 10.
