BUFFALO, NY - Stephen McKinley Henderson, a Buffalo actor, director and professor cherishes his role in the movie Lincoln.

The movie leads the Oscar nominations this year  and is expected by many to take home more than one of the big prizes.

Henderson plays William Slade, a free-born African-American and Lincoln's valet.

Henderson is a professor at the University at Buffalo. He sat down with Channel 2's Claudine Ewing to talk about the movie that he says he knew was going to be "a great American film."

Henderson did not audition for director Steven Spielberg, but says the highly acclaimed director was pleased with a scene where Henderson's character sees the President walking down a hallway. "Spielberg had a vision that I was the last person to see the President leave the White House that particular fateful night."

Henderson was in an Academy Award nominated movie last year called Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. He was nominated for a Tony for Best supporting actor in Fences, which starred Denzel Washington.

When the awards are being announced, Henderson will be in Buffalo working with his college students. "I'll be in tech week for this play, Forgiving John Lennon that we're doing with the students here," but he will keep close tabs on what is happening in Hollywood.
